Bulldogs Compete at 2020 NCWA California State Championships
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — February 15, 2020
The Fresno State Wrestling Club returned to competition after a three-month break, competing at the NCWA California State Championships hosted by USC.
The Bulldogs finished fifth in the men's team standings with 46 points, while the women's team placed fourth with 25 points. Fresno State was led by Sadaqut Zamani, who advanced to the 157-pound finals before finishing as the California State runner-up. Elyus Murrietta added a third-place finish at 174 pounds, while Gurleen Chahal finished second at 136 pounds on the women's side. Riley Budd also claimed the 285-pound California State title.
With the regular season complete, the Bulldogs now shift their focus toward the NCWA West Coast Conference Championships.

157 lbs — Sadaqut Zamani(2nd Place)
Zamani opened the tournament with a fall over Izaak Goodman (Merced College) before advancing past teammate Isaac Warf by medical forfeit in the semifinals. His tournament came to a close in the championship match against returning NCWA All-American Michael Klee (Cal Poly).
157 lbs — Isaac Warf (6th Place)
Warf opened with a fall over James Eun (USC). He fell to teammate Sadaqut Zamani in the semifinals before dropping matches to Andy Carter (USC) and Izaak Goodman (Merced College) to finish sixth.
174 lbs — Elyus Murrietta (3rd Place)
Competing in a round-robin bracket, Murrietta opened with a fall over Fabrizio Congiu (Merced College). He later dropped matches to PJ Schmitz (Cal Poly) and Alex Ledesma (Sacramento State) to finish third.
285 lbs — Riley Budd (1st Place)
Budd claimed the 285-pound California State Championship.
123 lbs — Jamilynne Gonzalez
Competing in a round-robin bracket, Gonzalez dropped matches to Jasmine Plasencia (Cal Poly), Keiko Sanders (Cal Poly), and Karrissa Crook (Sacramento State).
136 lbs — Gurleen Chahal (2nd Place)
Chahal opened the tournament with falls over Alondra Paredes Ramirez (Sacramento State) and Priscilla Ng (Cal Poly). She finished the tournament with a loss to Flora Chang (UC Santa Barbara) to place second.
