About the Program
Staying Home or Coming from Afar
Fresno State NCWA Wrestling is the perfect fit for Central Valley athletes who want to stay close to home while competing at the four-year level — and for wrestlers from outside the area looking to continue their career while earning their degree at Fresno State. We proudly offer opportunities for both men and women to compete, providing a competitive and supportive environment for every wrestler on our roster.
Built for Long-Term Success
Our program has resources many California NCWA teams can’t match — including a dedicated wrestling room left over from our former NCAA Division I program, inherited competition mats that allow us to host home events, and the same core coaching staff that has guided the team for over a decade. We’ve produced NCWA All-Americans, developed a well-oiled system for growth, and built a strong network to schedule meaningful competition that ensures our athletes get the mat time they need to excel.

Competing Across the West
As a nationally competitive program, Fresno State NCWA Wrestling travels the West Coast to face teams from Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Colorado. Our NCWA membership gives us the flexibility to schedule with NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, 3C2A, and other NCWA programs, allowing us to tailor each season to match the level and goals of our team. This ensures our athletes are consistently challenged while gaining valuable experience against a wide range of opponents.
Postseason Opportunities & Mat Time
Our NCWA postseason is a major advantage — we can enter two athletes per weight class, doubling the chances for championship-level experience. For women, all NCWA matches are contested in folkstyle, creating a smoother transition from high school competition. At Fresno State, the expectation is that you’ll see the mat as a freshman, gaining meaningful match experience right from the start of your college career.

Fresno State delivers a high-quality education at an affordable price. With over 60 majors to choose from, you can pursue nearly any academic path you want. Even without athletic scholarships, most of our wrestlers qualify for Cal Grant and Pell Grant funding, meaning many pay little or nothing out of pocket.
