Bulldogs Open 2018-19 Season with Strong Showing at Home Quad Dual
FRESNO, Calif. – November 3, 2018
A new season brought renewed energy to the Fresno State Wrestling Club as the Bulldogs opened the 2018 campaign at home, hosting a quad dual on Saturday, November 3, inside the South Gym. With a refreshed lineup featuring a mix of returning experience and new faces, Fresno State welcomed Sacramento State, UC Riverside, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to kick off the year.
Fresno State 36, Sacramento State 18
The Bulldogs kicked off the day with a dominant 36–18 win over Sacramento State, fueled by bonus point victories and an aggressive start across the light and middleweights.
Fresno State 29, UC Riverside 0
In their second dual, Fresno State kept the momentum rolling, shutting out UC Riverside 29–0 in a clean sweep of head-to-head bouts.
Fresno State 15, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 42
In the final dual of the day, the ‘Dogs ran into a tough and deep Cal Poly squad. With several forfeits in the upper weights, Fresno State fell 15–42 to the Mustangs. Despite the loss, the dual featured competitive matches in the contested weights and valuable early-season reps for the lineup.

On the women’s side, Mai Xiong and Paola Juarez both saw action in exhibition bouts against Cal Poly's female wrestlers, gaining mat time and showcasing the continued growth of the women's program.
The 2–1 finish marked a solid start to the season for the Bulldogs, who will now turn their attention to building momentum as the semester continues.
Next Up
The Bulldogs will hit the road for their next competition as they travel to Forest Grove, Oregon to compete in the Mike Clock Open, held November 10–11. Both the men's and women's teams are scheduled to compete in the two-day collegiate event.
