Bulldogs Return to Action at Mat Cat Open

McMINNVILLE, Ore. — January 5, 2025

The Fresno State Wrestling Club opened the 2025 calendar year on Sunday at the Mat Cat Open in McMinnville, Oregon. The tournament marked the Bulldogs' first competition following the winter break and provided an opportunity to return to the mat before the start of the season's final stretch.

Competing against a field that included junior college, four-year, and unattached wrestlers from across the Pacific Northwest, the Bulldogs gained valuable mat time as they prepared for a challenging month of competition ahead. While Fresno State did not produce any place winners, the event served as an opportunity to shake off the rust and continue building toward the postseason.

Martinez opened his tournament with a technical fall victory over Junior Sandoval (Unattached) before falling in the semifinals to Manuel Martir (Unattached). His tournament concluded in the consolation bracket against Chase RJ Manski (Umpqua Community College).
