Bulldogs Wrestle at Westcliff Duals

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – January 10, 2026

The Fresno State NCWA Wrestling women’s team continued its steady growth at the Westcliff Duals, a full day of dual meet action hosted by Westcliff University at Golden West College.

Fresno State entered the event with a smaller lineup than originally expected, a challenge shared by several teams in attendance. With the primary goal centered on mat time and development, the Bulldogs adjusted on the fly, moving athletes up in weight to create competitive matchups and maximize opportunities to wrestle.

That team-first approach defined the day. Delilah Lozano and Lilian Busnardo rotated between the 138- and 145-pound weight classes as Fresno State worked to fill lineup gaps and keep athletes competing. The willingness to move weights and take on unfamiliar matchups underscored the program’s emphasis on growth over comfort.

The mindset was perhaps best illustrated during the Vanguard dual, when Fresno State’s No. 1-ranked NCWA 103-pounder Jocelynn Benitez bumped up two weight classes to wrestle at 117 pounds. In a bout against a significantly larger opponent, the Bulldog embraced the program mantra — “Anyone. Anytime. Anywhere.”

“(The Westcliff Duals) was a great event to be a part of,” head coach Jovany Gonzalez said. “The goal for our women’s program is to compete with teams of this level.”

By day’s end, Fresno State had faced experienced lineups from across the region. While the scores reflected the challenge of competing shorthanded, the Bulldogs left Huntington Beach with valuable dual-meet experience and a clearer picture of their continued development.

Against Vanguard, Fresno State continued to battle through lineup challenges. The Bulldogs earned points at 110 pounds and saw competitive efforts in the lower and middle weights, but Vanguard’s depth proved to be the difference as the dual progressed.

In the exhibition matchup, Benitez once again set the tone with a technical fall at 103 pounds. Fresno State also picked up additional points through the lineup as the dual provided extended mat time against another uncommon opponent.
