Fresno State Opens 2018 Campaign at NCWA Western Regional Duals
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — January 28, 2018
The Fresno State Wrestling Club opened its 2017–18 season with a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the 2018 NCWA Western Regional Duals on January 28. Hosted at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the event brought together a deep field of NCWA competition, including teams from BYU, Arizona, Richland College (TX), North Texas, Wayne State, CSU Northridge, Utah State, Dixie State, USC, Colorado State, and the host squad, UNLV.
With a reloaded but relatively young squad, Fresno State entered the event looking to shake off the offseason rust and test themselves early. The Bulldogs would go 1-2 on the day, finishing in 9th place overall.
In the opening round, Fresno State ran into a tough Arizona squad, falling 34–17. After a bye in the second round, they squared off against UNLV in a tightly contested dual, but came up just short, 34–28. In the final round, the Bulldogs showed their grit, edging out USC in a close 24–20 victory to close the day on a high note.
With a win under their belt and early season experience gained, the Bulldogs are looking forward to building momentum through the rest of the spring.
