Fresno State Wrestling Club Hosts First Home Dual in Nearly a Decade, Tops CSU San Marcos

On January 31, 2015, the Fresno State Wrestling Club made history once again, hosting its first home dual in over nine years inside the South Gym on campus. Taking on CSU San Marcos in their first NCWA competition of the season, the Bulldogs delivered a strong showing in front of family, friends, and supporters of the Central Valley wrestling community, winning the dual by a commanding score of 41–18.
This event wasn’t just a dual—it was a community effort. Local programs stepped up to help bring the event to life, generously lending mats, scoreboards, and a certified scale. It marked more than just a wrestling meet—it was a symbol of wrestling’s return to Fresno State, built on grassroots effort and local pride.
The Fresno State lineup showed their depth and determination throughout the meet. Wrestlers who took the mat included:
141 lbs – Dylan McCombs
157 lbs – Davit Gevorgyan
165 lbs – Eric Vandell
174 lbs – Jesus Medina
184 lbs – Christian Cunningham
197 lbs – Jesus Izazaga
285 lbs – Jesus Marez-Lopez
The team also featured extra matches, including Kevin Pereira at 157 lbs, who added to the team’s competitive edge and mat time. The Bulldogs took control early and never looked back, showcasing both experienced returners and fresh talent.
As the first dual hosted since the return of the wrestling program as an NCWA team, the win marked a major step forward. With support from the wrestling community and a growing roster, the program continues to build momentum toward a stronger presence in the collegiate club wrestling scene.
