Bulldog Women Battle Tough Field at Nor-Cal Open
ANDERSON, Calif. – November 21, 2015
The Fresno State women’s wrestling team continued to blaze its trail with a strong showing at the Nor-Cal Open, hosted by Simpson University at Anderson High School. This marked the first event on the club’s schedule dedicated solely to the women’s team, providing an opportunity for the squad to focus on development and competition.
The field was stacked with talent, including top-level teams such as Menlo College, Southern Oregon, Simon Fraser University, and Southwestern Oregon Community College. Many of these programs are well-established WCWA powers. Notably, Southwestern Oregon also competes in the NCWA postseason, giving the Bulldogs an early look at a team they’re likely to see down the line at nationals.
Mai Xiong (101 lbs), Jessica Garcia (109 lbs), and Rossana Aguilar (123 lbs) all stepped on the mat to compete in round-robin brackets against tough opposition. While the trio went winless on the day, the matches provided crucial mat time, technical growth, and firsthand exposure to the kind of competition the Bulldogs are aiming to match in the near future.
The young Bulldog squad continues to embrace every challenge thrown their way and is steadily building toward postseason readiness.
