Bulldogs Return to Competition at Bill Musick Memorial Open
FRESNO, Calif. — November 6, 2021
For the first time in nearly two years, the Fresno State Wrestling Club returned to competition at the Bill Musick Memorial Open after the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the entire 2020-21 season.
The Bulldogs opened the 2021-22 campaign across town at Fresno City College, marking the program's first opportunity to compete since March of 2020. Although the results did not fall in Fresno State's favor, the tournament provided a chance to shake off the rust and begin building toward the new season.
Daniel Hidalgo represented the Bulldogs at 184 pounds, drawing two NCAA Division I redshirts in his opening tournament of the year. On the women's side, Evelyn Guzman (116), Amaya Castillo (143), and Grace Her (143) each competed in exhibition bouts, gaining valuable match experience as the season got underway.
With their first tournament back now complete, the Bulldogs turn their attention toward their first out-of-state competition of the season.
