Bulldogs Return to NCAA Division I Competition at Roadrunner Open
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — November 20, 2022
For the first time in eight years, the Fresno State Wrestling Club was represented at the Roadrunner Open, an NCAA Division I tournament hosted by Cal State Bakersfield.
Representing the Bulldogs was team captain and returning NCWA All-American Nicholas Martino, who tested himself against one of the toughest fields the program had faced in years. The Roadrunner Open brought together nationally recognized NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA programs, giving Fresno State an opportunity to measure itself against some of the nation's top collegiate wrestlers.
Also making the trip was Fresno State Wrestling Club alumnus Davit Gevorgyan, who entered the tournament unattached while wearing the Bulldog singlet one final time. The former Bulldog returned to the mat, adding another familiar face to Fresno State’s club program return to the prestigious event.
While the results themselves were only part of the story, Fresno State's return to the Roadrunner Open marked an important milestone for the program. Competing alongside NCAA Division I programs once again reflected the club's continued growth and its commitment to challenging its athletes against the highest level of collegiate competition.
