Fresno State Wrestling Opens 2014–15 Campaign at Bill Musick Open

FRESNO, Calif. – November 8, 2014

The Fresno State Wrestling Club launched its second season of competition over the weekend, competing at the Bill Musick Open on November 8, 2014, hosted by Fresno City College. With the team steadily growing since its founding, this tournament marked the official start of the 2014–15 campaign.

The Bulldogs were represented by eight wrestlers: Dylan McCombs (141 lbs), Vinay Rao (141 lbs), Daniel Avalos (149 lbs), Davit Gevorgyan (157 lbs), Kevin Pereira (157 lbs), Mason Temple (157 lbs), Christian Cunningham (184 lbs), and Jesus Marez-Lopez (285 lbs). Each athlete had the opportunity to step on the mat and face off against tough competition from across California, including multiple top-level junior college and university programs.

Though results were not the focus, the experience was invaluable. Fresno State wrestlers battled hard and used the tournament as a learning opportunity to gauge where they stand and how they can grow throughout the season. It also served as a chance for new members to make their competitive debut in the club’s singlet.

The Bill Musick Open continues to be one of the premier early-season events in the Central Valley, and the Bulldogs were proud to be part of it. The coaching staff and leadership are excited about the direction of the program and the commitment shown by student-athletes on and off the mat.

With the first event behind them, the Fresno State Wrestling Club looks to build momentum as the season progresses and continue representing the university with pride and a growing presence in California’s wrestling community.
