Veterans Day Duals Bring Tough Early Tests for Fresno State Wrestling

FRESNO, Calif. — November 8-9, 2025

The Fresno State NCWA squad hosted the 3rd annual NCWA Veterans Day Duals on November 8 and 9 inside the Fresno State Student Recreation Center - West Gym, welcoming programs from across the West Coast for a two day showcase of collegiate wrestling. The 2025 edition of the Duals brought together an impressive field as Fresno State hosted Utah Tech, UNLV, San Jose State, Sacramento State, UCLA, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, Menlo College (NCWA), and NAIA guest Simpson University. Saturday featured the women’s division duals, while Sunday ran the men’s division.

Women’s Recap

The Fresno State women’s team battled throughout Saturday night and showed steady improvements across the lineup. The standout performer of the evening was freshman 103 pounder Jocelynn Benitez, who delivered a perfect 3-0 record. Benitez recorded two pinfall victories and added a dominant tech fall to complete one of the strongest outings of the duals.

Fresno State also picked up wins in its dual against UNLV, where 138 pounder Angelique Huerta-Alvarado and 145 pounder Gabriela Flores each secured victories. While the Bulldogs did not record a team dual win, the young squad gained valuable early season experience against established collegiate opponents.

A bright spot for the Bulldogs was 141 pounder Emmanuel Plascencia, a Fresno City College transfer who delivered two pinfall victories in his contested matches and received a forfeit in his third. Plascencia’s effort led the team on a challenging day.
