Plascencia Goes Undefeated At Curtis Shurkamp Side Event

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — November 15, 2025

The Fresno State NCWA team traveled to The Nest at Sacramento State on Saturday to compete in the side event of the Curtis Shurkamp Dual Meet. While the main event featured a tri-meet between Humboldt State, San Francisco State, and Sacramento City College, the Bulldogs participated in a scramble event that provided additional competition opportunities for wrestlers throughout the day.

Representing Fresno State were Emmanuel Plascencia, Zavian Barrios, and Michael Villa. The trio combined for six matches against opponents from Sacramento State, Sacramento City College, and San Francisco State, with Plascencia leading the way with a dominant undefeated performance.

The junior transfer turned in a dominant performance at 141 pounds, winning all four of his matches and earning bonus points in every victory. Plascencia recorded two falls, a major decision, and a technical fall on his way to a perfect 4-0 day.

Unfortunately, Fresno State's day was also marked by injury. Competing at 157 pounds, Zavian Barrios suffered an injury during competition that forced him out of action.

Michael Villa rounded out the Bulldogs' contingent, gaining valuable mat time against collegiate competition as Fresno State continued building experience against NCAA and 3C2A opponents.
